Guadalupe Parish culminates las posadas with a big celebration

SALT LAKE CITY — Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish closed the novena of las posadas for the 2012 holiday season in a big way, with 500 parishioners gathered at the Complex, an entertainment venue in Salt Lake City. They arrived from different parishes of the Diocese of Salt Lake City.

No es un secreto que nuestra diócesis se encuentra en una desesperada necesidad de sacerdotes, hermanas y hermanos. Hubo épocas en donde contábamos generosamente con el servicio de numerosas Hermanas y un tanto más de sacerdotes, pero hoy en día ya no están. ¿Qué pasó? ¿Será que Dios decidió recortar el número de llamados para los ordenados o para la vida religiosa? Ciertamente No! Dios nos llama a cada uno por nuestro nombre, a través del bautismo, para ser santos – es decir, a acercarnos más a Él en esta vida y a ser uno en Él por siempre en el cielo. Para la mayoría, este llamado se expresa en el sacramento del matrimonio o como personas solteras dedicadas a una vocación específica de servicio. Pero hay muchos para quienes el camino a la santidad es el servicio de ordenación de la comunidad de Dios como sacerdote o diácono, o como religiosa, viviendo en comunidad entre el pueblo de Dios a quienes sirven a través de una variedad de carismas.

El Concilio Ecuménico Vaticano II, en la Constitución pastoral Gaudium et spes, ha recordado que «la Iglesia avanza juntamente con toda la humanidad» (n. 40), por lo cual «los gozos y las esperanzas, las tristezas y las angustias de los hombres de nues-tro tiempo, sobre todo de los pobres y de cuantos sufren, son a la vez gozos y esperanzas, tristezas y angustias de los discípulos de Cristo.

Items needed for St. Martha's Baby Project

OGDEN — The shelves are a little bare in the single room in the Catholic Community Services Northern Utah (CCS) building that houses St. Martha’s Baby Project. While there are piles of quilts, afghans and hats, "right now we’re out of bottles" said Chris Losee, the volunteer who heads the project. "Pacifiers we’re also out of, and we’re also low on wipes right now. And we always need diapers, newborn or size one. The problem we’re having right now is that we’re at the end of the year and we’ve used pretty much all of the Christmas donations, and we don’t get our grant until the middle of January." >>>
