FT. DUCHESNE — Pope Benedict XVI canonized Saint Kateri Tekakwitha on Oct. 21, an event the Diocese of Salt Lake City celebrated in Fort Duchesne with a Mass at which Bishop John C. Wester presided. Catholics from throughout the diocese attended the open-air Mass at the Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Center in Ft. Duchesne, which was followed by a reception at Saint Helen Parish in Roosevelt.

FT. DUCHESNE — El 21 de octubre el Papa Benedicto XVI canonizó a Santa Kateri Tekakwitha, en Ft. Duchesne. La Diócesis de Salt Lake City celebró el evento con una Misa presidida por el Reverendísimo John C. Wester, Obispo de Salt Lake City. Católicos de toda la diócesis asistieron a esta Misa al aire libre realizada en el Centro Catolico Tekakwitha en Ft. Duchesne, seguida por una recepción en la parroquia de Saint Helen en Roosevelt.

WASHINGTON — To honor the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council and the 20th anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI has announced a Year of Faith, which started Oct. 11 and ends Nov. 24, 2013, meant to strengthen the faith of Catholics and draw the world to faith by their example. Pope Benedict encourages Catholics to study the lives of the saints as part of the Year of Faith in order to follow their example.

SALT LAKE CITY — Catholic Community Services’ (CCS) upcoming annual Humanitarian Awards dinner will pay tribute to seven honorees who are "all tremendous humanitarians in our community," said Jose Lazaro, CCS director of development and marketing. "The CCS Partner of the Year is Mark Franken, who was formerly with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for more than 30 years. He was one of the pioneers in refugee resettlement, and much of what takes place now is a result of his hard work."
