Sisters of the Holy Cross novices experience Utah as part of their formation program

SALT LAKE CITY — The initial formation program for second-year novices in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross includes a three-month mission experience living and working with sisters throughout the United States. On Sept. 30, the Holy Cross Sisters in Utah welcomed three novices, who will stay until Dec. 30, when they return to Saint Mary’s Convent in Notre Dame, Ind.

SALT LAKE CITY — Father Alex Joseph Vellappally from the Diocese of Kanjirapally, India, is enrolled in an alcohol and substance abuse treatment and training program at the University of Utah. He will soon begin teaching at the university and visiting agencies that treat individuals with addictions.

Mary Frances Reza quien ha servido `como músico, litúrgica, maestra, compositora, clínica y en el ministerio hispano en la Arquidiócesis Católica de Santa fe en Nuevo México es la encargada de la presentación del retiro. Su tema es "Un tiempo de reflexión. Las palabras que cantamos y rezamos en el Adviento".

America is a nation known for its freedom of religion. Our Constitution clearly states that citizens are permitted to affiliate themselves with any belief. Yet in a country where we can believe in any faith, many people choose to be unaffiliated with religion. Today, religion is waning in America. Twenty percent of Americans say they have no affiliation with religion compared to three percent in the 1950’s. The reasons for this sudden drop of religious interest are woven through the American ways and lifestyles.
