St. Vincent's 7th graders become entrepreneurs and raise $1,500 for Japan earthquake victims

SALT LAKE CITY — The 7th Grade class at Saint Vincent de Paul’s Catholic School worked hard in May becoming entrepreneurs and creating small businesses to help raise money for Japan earthquake relief. During religion class, teacher Alice Hall dared her students to donate $5 of their own money, but instead of just donating it, she challenged them to work in teams of three and come up with a small business idea that would grow their money exponentially.

SALT LAKE CITY — Mary Nelson had no intention of writing a novel 20 years ago when she first started researching her husband’s Scandinavian ancestry. She had written poetry and short stories, some of which were published in literary magazines, but it wasn’t until a neighbor suggested she try the longer form that she considered turning her fascination with the Norse sagas into a book.

BOUNTIFUL — On June 1, students, faculty, parents and guests of Saint Olaf School in Bountiful were treated to a play presented by the eighth-grade class, "Bottle of Joy." The humorous play is about a fictional kingdom called Happy, where all the citizens are always happy because of the King’s king-size bottle of joy. After many amusing adventures and personal experiences, the citizens discover that true happiness does not come from a bottle, but from within oneself.
