The Dominican community at Saint Catherine of Siena Newman Center in Salt Lake City marked the 800 anniversary of their order’s founding with a Dominican Rite Mass on Nov. 8, followed the next night with a special presentation on Dominican charisms by Fr. Serge Propst, a member of the Dominican Preaching band. Other special speakers will be brought in throughout the year, said Dominican Father Peter Hannah, the parish’s associate pastor, who presided at the Mass.

Holy Cross Ministries counselors have begun to implement a new school-wide curriculum at St. Vincent de Paul, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Andrew and St. Francis Xavier schools in the Diocese of Salt Lake City to help the students create a sense of community.
“Building our school community, brick by brick” is a program established in the four schools by Katie Simpson, a HCM intern and master of social work student at the University of Utah.

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (2003) provides the protocol for the reception of Communion from the chalice by all members of the assembly, not just the clergy: “Holy Communion has a fuller form as a sign when it is distributed under both kinds. For in this form the sign of the Eucharistic banquet is more clearly evident and clear expression is given of the divine will by which the new and eternal Covenant is ratified in the Blood of Christ, as also the relationship between the Eucharistic banquet and the eschatological banquet in the Father’s Kingdom” (no. 281). Official statements on the value of Communion under both kinds are variants on this principle

Sonia West has been a part of Blessed Sacrament School since the early 1990s, when her two daughters were enrolled as students. She became the school’s accountant in 2002 and the advancement director in 2006.
