Agnes Z. Sahut, 84, formerly of Johnstown, New York, passed away on May 15, 2019 in Salt Lake City. Agnes was born in Johnstown on November 11, 1934. She was a daughter of the late Augustine Zayicek and Terezia Burda Zayicek, the youngest of 10 children.

She was a graduate of Johnstown High School, Class of 1952. She married Maurice Sahut on September 29, 1956. Agnes was an active member of St. Patrick’s, St. Anthony’s and Holy Trinity parishes in Johnstown, New York.

Life was her stage and she was the star. Aggie was best known for her love of the performing arts and showcased her talent at several venues, including The Colonial Little Theater, Pink Flamingo Supper Club and St. Pat’s Irish Minstrel shows. She was known for her “torch singer” renditions of “Who’s Sorry Now,” “Hard-Hearted Hannah,” “Everything is Coming up Roses,” and “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man,” among others. She also played piano and was the organist at Immaculate Conception Church.

She was known for her dedication to her family and faith, always willing to help out and lead others to great accomplishments. Agnes will be fondly remembered by her friends and family for the festive gatherings that she hosted at her home in Johnstown. She was always the “life of the party,” and will be sadly missed.

She and Maurice, married for 62 years, lived in Johnstown for most of their lives. They moved to Salt Lake City in 2016 to be closer to family.

Agnes was predeceased by her brothers Frank, Rudolph, Augustine and Andrew Zayicek; and sisters Helen Zayicek, Margaret Guzzo, Lucy Campbell and Sister M. Christopher V.S.C. Survivors include her sister Patricia Bjelica, of Johnstown; children Christian and Daphne Sahut, Renee and Tracy Steinwand, Rachel and Beau Parent; and her beloved grandchildren Allison, Darrick, Aimee, Nicholas and Sean.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at St. Catherine of Siena Church. A memorial gathering will be celebrated in Johnstown in the near future.
