Alice Rosalie Viox Neville ?Rosalie?

October 29, 1928 ~ March 30, 2019

Rosalie quietly passed away in the Cottonwood Creek Senior Living Community on March 30, 2019. Rosalie was born on October 29, 1928 in Green River, Wyoming.  She was the youngest of five children.  After high school, she moved to Salt Lake City to attend the College of Saint Mary-of-the-Wasatch and Holy Cross Nursing School. Rosalie remained in Salt Lake working as a nurse at Holy Cross Hospital until she married the love of her life, Robert Neville, on April 11, 1953. Together they raised seven children and remained married for nearly 65 years.  Rosalie returned to nursing when her youngest child began school.  She was well known for her bedside manner and sought out for administering the most gentle shots.

Rosalie was very involved in Saint Ambrose Parish. She was instrumental in developing the Irish Garden at the International Peace Garden in Salt Lake City.  In addition, she served in various offices of the Hibernian Society holding the honor of “Hibernian of the Year” in 1991. She was also instrumental in the commissioning of the Gandy Dancer Statue displayed in the Utah Railroad Museum in Ogden, as well as the Irish plaque at the Golden Spike National Historical Site.

To her family, Rosalie’s most important acts of service were provided as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was an expert homemaker, a skilled seamstress and cook and loved to open her home as a gathering place for children and extended family. She and her husband Bob were very proud of their children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments and attended any event that they participated in, rain or shine.

Rosalie was known for her beauty, inside and out. It is a beauty that will endure long after her passing, reflected in the generations that follow her.

She is survived by children Bob, Jr. (Susan); Loretta McConnor (Sean); Greg (Sandi); Jane Larson (Jim); Chris (Heather); and Mike (Donette), 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, daughter Rosalie, sisters Jo, Mary Kay, Helen and brother Chuck.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on April 6, 2019 at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, Judge Memorial Catholic High School, or the Hibernian Society of Utah.

Fare thee well, Mom; we will miss you.
