CCS Backpack Bonanza — St. Vincent de Paul Knights of Columbus Council 13297 is collecting backpacks filled with school supplies, new socks and underwear for children in K-8. Return the backpacks by Sunday, Aug. 7 to St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1375 E. Spring Lane, SLC.

Rite of Consecration for Individuals and Families — Sunday, Aug. 14, after the 11:30 a.m. Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4050 South 3900 West, West Haven. In recognition of the closing of the 75th anniversary of the martyrdom of St. Maximilian Kolbe. 

Marian Concert — Sunday, Aug. 14, 3 p.m., at Sacred Heart Parish, 946 South 200 East, SLC. The concert will include Gregorian chant, and works by Dufay, Alfonso el Sabio, La Vigne, Franco, Weckmann, Monteverdi, Handel, and Arañés by heArt Music Ensemble and featuring the combined choirs of Sacred Heart Parish. Free Concert — Sunday, Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 S. Chapel St., Layton. Paul Koleske, a contemporary Catholic musician, will offer a concert of music and inspirational spoken reflections.

Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary — Monday, Aug. 15, is not a holy day of obligation this year. (The NCCB decree of 13 December 1991, confirmed by the Apostolic See on 04 July 1992, stipulates that whenever Aug. 15 falls on a Saturday or on a Monday, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated.) 

Healing Mass — Saturday, Aug. 20 and every third Saturday of the month to follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, 3560 West 3650 South, West Valley City. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 8 a.m.

Fall Festival — Saturday Sept. 3, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at St. Lawrence Mission, 5 South 100 West, Heber City. Beer garden, food, music, farmers market and bake sale, petting zoo, children’s games. All are invited. Dogs on leash are welcome.  

Catholics Can Award — The Diocese of Salt Lake City Commission for People with Disabilities is accepting nominations for the annual Catholics Can Award, which may be given to a parish, an organization or an individual who ensures all are welcome and served in our local Church.
