Guest Speaker on the Death Penalty — Tuesday, Sept. 4, 7 p.m. in the gathering space of St. Catherine of Siena Newman Center, 170 University St., SLC. Fr. John Norman, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, will speak on the Catholic Church’s teachings on the death penalty. All are welcome.

Bishop’s Dinner — Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Grand America Hotel, 555 Main St., SLC. Celebrates the 25th anniversary of the rededication of the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Guest speaker will  be the Most Rev. William K. Weigand, Bishop emeritus of Sacramento and the seventh Bishop of Salt Lake City. Diocesan Day of Prayer — Friday, Sept. 7. Bishop Oscar A. Solis has asked Catholics in the diocese to set aside time for prayer for the intention of remembering the victims of sexual abuse by clergy. Check your local parish for services.

National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children — Saturday, Sept. 8; the local memorial service will be at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 275 U St., SLC. Fr. John Evans, pastor of St. Thomas More Parish, will be the speaker.

Guest Speaker on End-Of-Life Issues — Saturday, Sept. 8, 3–4:30 p.m. at St. Thomas More Parish’s Meyer Hall, 3015 Creek Road, Sandy. Remembrance of Victims of Abortion — Saturday, Sept. 8. In commemoration of the annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children, the Masses at St. Joseph Parish, 514 24th St,, Ogden, will be dedicated to victims of abortion. After the 5:30 p.m. Mass will be a prayer walk on 24th Street to pray the rosary for these victims.

Fall Festival — Saturday, Sept. 8, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Lawrence Mission, 100 W. Center St., Heber City. Games, a silent auction, beer garden with live music, craft sales, farmers market.

Harvest Festival — Saturday, Sept. 8, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4050 South 3900 West, West Haven. Begins with a 5K run/walk; features car show, farmer’s market, vendors, silent auction, live music.

Parish Game Night — Saturday, Sept. 8, 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish’s social hall, 670 South 1100 East, SLC. Cost: $15 games; $5 dinner.

Parish Dinner/Game Night — for Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Copperton. Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Lions Club, 320 Hillcrest St., Copperton. Doors open at 5 p.m. Dinner: 5:45-6:30 p.m.; games begin 6:30 p.m.

Catholics Can Mass — recognizing the contributions of Catholics with disabilities. Sunday, Sept. 9, noon at St. Joseph Parish, 365 S. Main, Monticello. All are welcome.

Eccles Organ Festival — the 25th season kicks off Sunday, Sept. 9, 8 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, with Andrew Unsworth, organist for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Free and open to the public.

Level I Training for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion — Tuesday, Sept. 11, 6-9 p.m. at the Chancery Building, 303 E. South Temple, SLC.  $15 fee to cover materials. Preregistration required; call Trisha, 801-328-8641 ext. 323.

Special Olympics Fundraiser — Wednesday, Sept. 12, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Pho V, 7092 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan. A portion of each bill will be donated to Special Olympics of Utah.

Scout Religious Emblems  — Now is the time for all Catholic scouts (Girl, Cub, Boy and Venturers) to begin work on their respective religious emblems. Awarding of emblems is tentatively scheduled on Scout Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Cathedral of the Madeleine with Bishop Oscar A. Solis presiding. Volunteers needed  — for the Diocesan Dinner and Pastoral Congress. Friday, Sept. 14 from 4 to 10 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 15 from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Help needed with baking/cooking, serving and cleanup.
