Planning Your Calendar? — Msgr. Colin Fr. Bircumshaw, vicar general, reminds all pastors, deacons, principals, religious and laity charged with creating calendars for their parish, school or Catholic organization that in keeping with a longstanding policy, no local events should be scheduled to conflict with the annual diocesan Pastoral Congress, which this year is scheduled for Sept. 23; the annual diocesan Advent retreat, which is scheduled for Dec. 2; and the annual Lenten retreat, which is scheduled for March 3, 2018.

What does the Catholic Church believe about cremation? What happens at a funeral Mass? May a Catholic Mass be celebrated if the deceased committed suicide? Do priests still give Last Rites? Answers to these questions may be found in CATHOLIC FUNERAL RITES AND CUSTOMS, which is available in English and Spanish for download at www.dioslc.org/ministries/liturgical/liturgical-guidelines. This new publication by the Office of Liturgy is for clergy, bereavement teams, liturgy preparation teams, mortuaries, pastoral care and the faithful for preparing and celebrating the three principal Funeral Rites of the Catholic Church.

To submit announcements for this page, send to atd@icatholic.org the Friday before you would like to see them published. Notices will not run the weekend of the event.
