In a remarkable transition, 60 students at Kearns-St. Ann Elementary School turned in their uniforms for the costumes of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta "The Pirates of Penzance." Clockwise from above left, a cordon of police are called forth to protect the citizenry from the pirates; the pirate king, played by Shelby Carpenter, sings about the perils of piratry; Frederic, played by Patrick Boner (center) finds his fellow pirates are not happy about his plans to leave the pirate life; the maidens, faced with pirate suiters, gather for protection. The operetta was directed by Douglas Nagel with accompaniment by Vickie Maronick.
