Bishop Wester visits St. John the Baptist Elementary School + Enlarge

The Most Reverend John Charles Wester, Bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, visited the classrooms of St. John the Baptist Catholic Elementary School February 27, followed by a question/answer session in the church and a luncheon with both the elementary and middle school faculty. During the question/answer session, the students asked many questions and learned things like: his favorite color is blue and his favorite hobbies are golf, hiking, playing the piano, and watching baseball. His approach to being a Bishop is that of a symphony director, bringing our community together and making "beautiful music." When asked by a student "Why did you decide to devote your life to God?" he answered, "In sixth grade I had some thoughts about becoming a priest and it later became clear that it was the right path to take. I now feel very blessed that I am doing something that is passionate to me. Many people have things they are passionate about, but have to put them off until they get off work, and work is just "punching a clock." I’m able to spend my day doing what I’m passionate about - God’s work." Principal Terry Lane was pleased that the Bishop could take time out of his busy schedule to visit the students. "It was a special day for our students, they were able to visit with Bishop Wester and ask him questions about his life and what being our bishop means to him. They were very excited to have him visit our school and spend time with them."
