SANDY — Blessed Sacrament School is among the 20 public schools, three private schools, one1 charter school, and one school district that have been named as 2012 National Schools of Character (NSOC) by the Character Education Partnership (CEP).

National Schools of Character are schools and districts across the United States that are models of excellence when it comes to character development and having caring, supportive school cultures. These schools have pledged to help other educators in their journey to school transformation.

"These schools have built strong communities that bring people together around shared goals," said Lara Maupin, NSOC Director. "Nobody feels alone or unwelcome in these schools. Adults are all on the same page about what’s important and, as a result, kids thrive."

Blessed Sacrament School had two representatives travel to Washington D.C. to accept the award on behalf of the students, families, and staff. Hundreds of representatives from over 30 states, five countries, and Puerto Rico were in attendance to take part in workshops, discussions, and presentations.

"These practices showcase so many creative and unique ways of dealing with challenges educators face each day," said Lisa Greeves, manager of the Promising Practices program. "CEP is proud to recognize these educators and to give them an international platform upon which to share their hard work."

This year’s winning practices include unique anti-bullying programs, successful integration of academics and character, self-motivation and goal-setting strategies, service-learning activities, and community outreach.

Blessed Sacrament Catholic School is a five-time recipient of a National Promising Practice Award. This year’s award winning practice is the "My Reflection & Refocus Form."
