SANDY — There’s one way to get members of a parish youth group to get to know each other, and that’s to lock them up together, supervise them closely, and create situations and games that enhance community, said Shelly Valdez, who, with her husband, John, directs youth ministry for Blessed Sacrament Parish, Sandy. That’s exactly what the Valdezes did Aug 12-13. Gathering more than 20 Blessed Sacrament Parish teens, the Valdezes conducted games and devised situations the teens would have to analyze according to Catholic teaching, find solutions and action plans, all the time getting to know one another better. The teens ate generous portions of pizza and ice cream, went bowling, attended Mass together, and planned their service projects for the next year.
