SALT LAKE CITY — The Diocese of Salt Lake Commission on Disabilities is honoring the Feast of Saint Dymphna by collaborating with the non-profit Art Access on an exhibit featuring artists with a mental illness.

St. Dymphna is the patron saint of people with mental illnesses; her feast day is May 15. Art Access is a Utah non-profit with the mission to provide arts programming for people with disabilities and those with limited access to the arts.

The month-long exhibit will feature work by artists with mental illness and their supporters.

"The goal of this exhibit is to present the gifts that these individuals bring to our community in an effort to combat the stigma that often plagues individuals with a mental illness as violent and a detriment to society," said Jacque Smithe, a member of the Commission on Disabilities.

The show will be juried; the selected works will be displayed at Magdalene Religious Goods, 2030 South 900 East Ste. A. The show will open with a "Meet the Artists" reception on May 16.

Submissions for the exhibit will be accepted noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at Magdalene Religious Goods.
