Aug. 29, 1932 – Sept. 28, 2016

Carol Jean Shewchuk Brockman was born on Aug. 29, 1932 and passed away peacefully on Sept. 28, 2016. She was the daughter of Paul and Matilda Shewchuk. She married her sweetheart, De Wayne M. Brockman, 64 years ago.
Carol was born and raised in Ogden, Utah. She attended Weber State College, but left her formal education early to carry on the janitorial company her father started. At 19, Carol sacrificed her education to ensure that 17 men and women employees would not lose their livelihoods. She continued to operate Ogden Window Cleaning Company into the 1970s, when the demands of handling the financial functions for “The Brockman Company,” a business her husband De Wayne had started, consumed most of her time.
Carol felt strongly that as a citizen of Ogden, she should volunteer her time and talents to improve her community. In those endeavors she served as a member or leader of many city, country, state and charitable organizations; to list them all is impossible. Most importantly, Carol would always say that these positions benefited her more than she benefited them because they were instrumental in creating lifelong friendships. These friendships buoyed her life and final days with strength and comfort.
Carol was the bedrock of her small family, which consisted of her loving husband, her only child Fritz and her daughter-in-law Ruth (whom she thought of as her own daughter).
True to Carol’s humility and wishes, a private family Mass was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was interred at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park. Services were entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
Carol and her family thank all her friends, her doctors and their staffs, Dr. Juan Fuentes, Dr. Leslye Ingersoll, Dr. Vincent Hansen, Dr. Jeffrey Call, as well as Intermountain Hospice and South Ogden Post-Acute.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Catholic Community Services or a charity of your choice.
