SALT LAKE CITY — Roland Abundo is co-chair, along with Tricia Bruggeman, of the Catholic Business Network, which has 83 members in the Diocese of Salt Lake City representing an array of businesses, from attorneys and medical professionals to those in real estate, insurance, technology and service industries.

“The CBN works to find meaningful ways the business community can support the overall goals of the Catholic Diocese,” according to the network’s website.

The co-chair position is basically a fulltime unpaid job, so the two, both busy professionals, have split the responsibilities for the last four years, Bruggeman said.

Abundo has been passionate about bringing the organization into the digital age and used his skills to create a more robust website and an online business directory, she said.

Abundo is “awesome” at maintaining the books and organization’s finances while Bruggeman acts as the event planner, she said, adding that he is always willing to share the skills he has learned in his own business with other members.

Utah Catholic Schools Superintendent Mark Longe said Abundo has been instrumental in the success of the CBN annual golf tournament, which raises funds for the schools. Abundo has helped organize, promote and plan the annual tournament and find sponsors for it.

The golf tournament “brings the community together, and I think it is generous of them to consider Catholic schools and to continue the support of Catholic schools in the diocese,” Longe said.
