One of Blessed Sacrament Catholic School’s core values is Community of Caring. This is a learning principle that fosters sustaining whole school improvement by practicing actions that build caring, respect, responsibility and trust in and for others.
Community of Caring is present in all aspects of the Blessed Sacrament School community, bringing together students, teachers, parents and the community at large. These principles lie at the heart of the school, encouraging students to befriend each other no matter their grade. This behavior also is modeled through grade communities such as school “families,” where students from each grade, preschool to eighth, come together for a craft or lesson.
It’s not only students who come together, though; it’s also parents. Blessed Sacrament’s Home-School Association has organized parent social nights such as the second annual Hues of Happiness Paint Night, where parents gathered for a guided painting lesson to build community outside of the school day.
One result of this emphasis on community is that teachers and families form close relationships, working together for the common good of the children. Blessed Sacrament has made a community in which alumni return to visit old teachers, volunteer and even work at the school. Community of Caring is also at the heart of all of Blessed Sacrament’s service projects, including the recent pajama drive, which collected more than 140 pairs of pajamas for the Road Home. In another service project, older students helped prepare food at Catholic Community Services of Utah’s Good Samaritan soup kitchen in Salt Lake City.
Community of Caring’s values shape Blessed Sacrament School through encouraging students, parents and teachers to befriend each other and form good will with each other, making a school community like no other and striving to make a positive impact in the world.
