OGDEN — Saint Joseph Elementary School hosted a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Night on Oct. 3. Families gathered to have a fun math evening with a variety of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-themed math activities suitable for students from preschool to eighth grade. Each grade hosted their own math activity, from jumping over a chocolate river for correct math facts to playing a chocolate bar game about probability and decision making.

The math night reinforced the importance of math in students’ everyday activities. Teachers play a vital role in teaching the fundamentals and shaping their students’ attitudes toward math, which leads to the students’ ultimate success. The night also provided fun ideas for parents to incorporate math in family games at home.

Students were delighted to see their teachers dressed up in their favorite Charlie and the Chocolate Factory character, including Oompa Loompas. About 300 people attended the evening of math and Willy Wonka.
