Constancia (Connie) M. Vigil
May 22, 1932 ~ April 20, 2023
The Medina family has lost their selfless, headstrong and devoted matriarch. Connie returned home to her Lord and Savior on April 20, 2023. She was born on May 22, 1932 in San Cristobal, New Mexico to Celestino Sr. and Eulogia Silva Medina. Connie was born to nurture and took on the responsibility of raising her two young siblings after the loss of her mother when she was 15. Even when advised by those close to her to give up the younger children (John being 2 and Marcella being 1) Connie asked herself, “How could you split up a family?” devoting herself and her life to keeping them together.
Shortly after, Connie met Felix Vigil, bonding over their love of nights dancing together at the Frontier Club. They married on April 28, 1952, leading to a long and loving marriage that lasted 47 years. During this time and as evidence of Connie’s nurturing spirit, in 1962 they adopted a daughter, Roberta, whom they loved and cherished unconditionally.
Connie spent every day of her life loving, teaching and caring immensely for those close to her. Connie was a strong-willed spitfire who loved and was devoted to her faith in the Catholic Church. If she was not at home cooking her famous tortillas while listening to Spanish music or attending her favorite Spanish-speaking Mass, you could probably find her in Wendover, gambling.
She enjoyed camping and hosting family get-togethers such as Easter celebrations, Medina family reunions and extravagant Christmas parties. Connie’s heart and home were open to all, whether you were family or friend. We will forever love, cherish and remember our mother, sister, abuelita, aunt and friend.
Connie is survived by her children, Celestino Jr. (Natalie) Medina, John (Michele) Medina, Marcella (Rod) Stookey and Felix (Brenda) Medina; 24 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Felix and brothers Roger, Orlando and Elevi.
Funeral services were held April 28 at St. Marguerite Catholic Church. Interment followed at Tooele City Cemetery.
