by Father Rick Sherman MONTICELLO — Twenty cyclists from the Ride for World Health team stayed the evening at St. Joseph Parish’s social hall April 17, and were treated to authentic Navajo tacos, spaghetti and homemade apple pie. The group is a national nonprofit organization that raises money and advocates for global health while using a cross-country bike ride as its vehicle of communication. The 3,700-mile ride takes place during April and May, traversing the country from San Diego, Calif. to Washington D.C. The 2007 Beneficaries are The Global Health Access Program and The Pendulum Project. Dr. Ken Brummel-Smith from Florida State University has organized this year’s group and is participating in the bike ride. Most of the riders are either doctors or medical students from different universities and were a high energy, inspirational group to visit with. It was a nice enjoyable evening for all involved. Fr. Sherman is pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish in Monticello and St. Pius X in Moab. The cyclists stopped on their way from San Diego to Washington, D.C.
