Deacon Ricardo Arias died peacefully Sunday, March 26, 2017 at his home in West Valley City, surrounded by his wife, Esperanza, family and many friends. 

Deacon Ricardo was born on March 4, 1953 in Cartago, Colombia. He married Esperanza on March 6, 1976. They have one son, Juan Pablo. 

He was ordained a deacon for the Diocese of Salt Lake City on Jan. 24, 2004 at the Cathedral of the Madeleine by Bishop George H. Niederauer. He served as a deacon at Sacred Heart Parish, Salt Lake City; Saint Joseph Parish, Ogden; Saints Peter and Paul Parish, West Valley City; and in the Vocations Office as associate and director. 

Deacon Ricardo was a true gentleman in every sense of the word, and a faithful husband, deacon and disciple of the Lord Jesus.

The vigil was celebrated Thursday, March 30, at 6 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Parish, 3560 West 3650 South (Lancer Way), West Valley City. 

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 31 at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC.
