Digna Dieppa de Maymi passed peacefully of natural causes on June 11, 2020 with her three daughters by her side. Moving to Salt Lake City from Puerto Rico with her husband, Jesus Maymi, and three young daughters, she lived a happy and full life. A search for a better life for the budding family brought them to the Salt Lake Valley, where they stayed and established new roots.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her daughters Digna Loy, Violeta and Iliana. She leaves behind a legacy of strong family values with strong ties to the Catholic Church. Throughout her life she experienced time with seven grandchildren (Digna Marie, Randy John Jr., Liana, Stephanie, Stephen, Sergio and Adriane) and five great-grandchildren (Isla, Stella, Evie, Sonny and Luca). Family to her was everything, and she was so very proud of her daughters and the type of parents they became. Digna was humble, caring, never complained and her generosity toward others made you want to always be better. Those traits live on through her family and her angel wings. Along with her legacy, she will leave behind her sense of humor, which had all newcomers believing that she did not understand any English; everyone in the family knew better.
Digna told many stories of her childhood in Puerto Rico and the love she had for her six sisters (Pepe, Ramonita, Guillermina, Ines, Maria and Gladys) and two brothers (Diomedes and Jose Antonio). The way Digna lived through giving and surrendering to her faith is a true testament to the family values of her mom (Felipa) and dad (Martin).
All aspects of her will be missed, but what will be missed most is a goodbye hug after a visit. No one made you feel more special after a visit that included a cup of her sweet java, buttered toast, egg sandwiches, rice and beans, empanadas, arroz con dulce and the list goes on and on.
With all the love we have, we send Digna to heaven in preparation of her next journey. We’re delighted by the lovely reunion Digna is having with family and we all know you’re taking care of Jesus (Chu) already, and this makes us so happy. Que te duerme con los angelitos y nosotros te amo mucho.
A funeral Mass was celebrated June 17, 2020 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Digna was laid to rest following Mass at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
