The eight men who are finishing their first year of formation with the Western Dominican Province visited Salt Lake City the weekend of June 29. Among their stops was Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Park City, where they attended the June 29 Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated by Father Anthony Shumway, who was ordained the night before. The Dominican novices were accompanied by the novice master, Father John Marie Bingham, O.P. First-year novices traditionally take a tour of the province, which encompasses Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah and New Mexico. In the Diocese of Salt Lake City, Dominicans serve the Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Newman Center, adjacent to the University of Utah; at Saint Martin de Porres Parish in Taylorsville; and at the Skaggs Catholic Center in Draper.
