Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe events

SALT LAKE CITY — The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Americas and secondary patroness of the Diocese of Salt Lake City is Saturday, Dec. 12. Despite the pandemic, several local parishes will celebrate the feast day, although there will be restrictions on crowd size. For information about a specific celebration, contact the parish directly.

Here are some of the schedules and restrictions.

Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City

Celebrations in Spanish will begin on Friday, Dec. 11 at 8:30 p.m. with mariachi. The rosary will be recited at 9:30 p.m. Mass, with Bishop Oscar A. Solis presiding, will be at 10 p.m. Aztec Dancers will be at 11 p.m. Mass will also be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 8 a.m. in English. This year there will be no procession or reception after Mass. Please do not bring any food items to the cathedral.

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 65 East 500 North, Orem 

Masses will be on Friday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m., 8 p.m., 10 p.m. and midnight; and on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 6 a.m., 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and in English at noon. Space is limited; registration required. To register, call Denise 801-836-7286 or Agustin at 801-318-8022.

t. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 S. Chapel St., Layton 

The novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe began on Thursday, Dec. 3 and will end on Friday, Dec. 11; parishioners are asked to pray in their homes. For the devotion of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the church and the social center will be open for personal prayer on  Friday, Dec. 11 from noon to 10 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 12, Las Mañanitas will be at 6 a.m., followed by the rosary at 7 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. All of these will take place in the church. 

St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 7405 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan 

From Wednesday through Friday, Dec. 9-11, the rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. and Mass at 7 p.m. each night. On Saturday, Dec. 12, Las Mañanitas will be at 6 a.m. Mass in Spanish and English will be at 10 a.m. Due to the pandemic there will be no social gathering or food sale.

t. Ann Catholic Church, 450 East 2100 South, Salt Lake City 

The Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be livestreamed on Facebook on Saturday, Dec. 12 at noon. Due to the pandemic, the church will be closed to the public.  

t. Joseph Catholic Church, 506 24th St., Ogden 

The novena honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe started on Dec. 3. It will continue through Dec. 11 every day in English after the 8 a.m. Mass and in Spanish after the 7 p.m. Mass.

aint Marguerite Catholic Church, 15 South 7th St., Tooele 

The novena honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe started on Dec. 3 and will go through Dec. 11 at  7 p.m. daily in the church.     On Friday, Dec. 11  there will be Vigil Masses in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe at 9 a.m. in English and at  7 p.m. in Spanish. Las Mañanitas will be at 5 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12. 

aint Andrew Catholic Church, 11835 South 3600 West, Riverton

The novena honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe started on Dec. 3 and will continue through Friday, Dec. 11 with a rosary at 7 p.m. and Mass at  7:30 p.m. nightly. On Friday, Dec. 11, there will be Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from  7 to 9 p.m., followed by Mass and serenade. On Saturday, Dec. 12, Mass will be at 11 a.m.

San Felipe Catholic Church, 606 E. Aria Blvd., Wendover 

The novena honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe started on Dec. 4 and will continue through Dec. 12, with each day dedicated to different states in Mexico: Dec. 4:. Veracruz Dec. 5: Nayarit Dec. 6: Michoacan Dec. 7: Chihuahua Dec. 8: Guerrero Dec. 9: Puebla Dec. 10: Tijuana Dec. 11: Jalisco, Zacatecas 5:30 p.m. Rosary (Flowers to the Virgin) 6 p.m. Mass 6:40 p.m. Dances 7:30 p.m. Rosary (Flowers to the Virgin) 8 p.m. Mass 9 p.m. Rosary (Flowers to the Virgin) 10 p.m. Santa Misa 11 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. Las Mañanitas Dec. 12: Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Perú, Colombia On Saturday, Dec. 12 there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. Mass in English will be at 5:30 p.m. Mass in Spanish will be at 6:30 p.m. Dances will follow.
