May 2, 1933 – Feb. 20, 2017

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Filbert J. Salazar Sr., 83, left peacefully on Feb. 20, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born in McPhee, Colo. on May 2, 1933 to Tony and Stella Trujillo, and raised by Maria Leonella and Tobias Salazar.
He attended Judge Memorial Catholic High School. He went to seminary to become a priest, but instead became a father of eight. He joined the Army, serving from 1953 to 1956. He married Vera P. Kelly on Oct. 10, 1953. (She said, “I’m gonna marry that boy because he does dishes.”) He worked at Hill Air Force Base, managed the La Morena Cafe, drove for Palace Meats and was a very active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
He is survived by his wife, Vera; seven daughters: Debbie, Cindy, Theresa (Gary), Daughter Michael, Elizabeth (Tom), Loretta (Steve), Geri Mary (Jr.); and one son Filbert. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, one sister and two brothers.
He was preceded in death by moms and dads, brothers and sisters.
Thanks to the Veterans Administration and hospice staff, and a special thanks to Debbie, Michael, Geri Mary and granddaughter Trina.
He was a Golden Gloves featherweight champ, loved dancing, golf and being with family.  (Dad will always have his tee time on heaven’s golf course). We love you and will miss you. Love you, Daddy.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 25 at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
