SALT LAKE CITY — In preparation for the traditional flow of people who visit Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery on Memorial Day weekend, the cemetery staff is implementing the government guidelines regarding social distancing because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We ask people to maintain the social distancing, and if possible wear masks,” said John Curtice, the cemetery’s director.
At publication time, social distancing guidelines were to keep 6 feet away from others when outside the home and wearing face coverings in settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. Also, social interactions that occur without oversight by a formal organization are allowable in groups of 20 or fewer.
Curtice requested that those visiting the cemetery observe these guidelines.
“Catholics need to take care of Catholics now more than ever,” he said.
On Memorial Day, the cemetery staff will be on hand to answer questions and to serve the needs of people, he said.
While Memorial Day weekend is a special time set aside for families to memorialize their loved ones, “understand that there are other people; respect other people’s privacy and space,” Curtice said.
