On March 22, members of the Juan Diego Catholic High School Social Justice Leadership class presented Catholic Community Services representatives with a check for $12,000 along with thousands of food items for the organization’s St. Vincent Kitchen Academy. The funds were the proceeds from the annual St. Joseph’s Table Food Drive organized by the class, and will be used to help purchase a new fridge, freezer and other items for the program. The food will help Catholic Community Services’ food bank feed the hungry in northern Utah. The class exceeded their goal of $10,000 and 10,000 cans of food, student representatives said. The tradition of honoring St. Joseph originated in Sicily as a way for local communities to give back to the less fortunate.
