SALT LAKE CITY — When Amanda Roth was accepted as a candidate in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, little did she know she would end up in beautiful Salt Lake City.

Amanda, who was born and raised in Indiana, is the youngest of three children. She studied finance in college and after graduation worked as an assistant controller at the home office of Senior Communities in Indianapolis.

Very active in her home parish of St. Agnes in Nashville, IN. Amanda became curious about the life of a sister when Holy Cross Sister Eileen Flavin came to St. Agnes as parish life coordinator in 2005.

"I became interested in learning more about religious life, and eventually that led me to want to know about Holy Cross. I was especially interested when I found out about the internationality of the congregation and its mission of meeting the needs of the poor all over the world," she said.

Amanda was welcomed into the candidate program in a simple ceremony on Aug. 26 in the Sisters of the Holy Cross Convent in Murray. Sister Miriam Joanne Frankenfield will oversee the candidacy, during which time Amanda will live at the convent and work part time in accounting for Holy Cross Ministries. The remainder of her weekly ministry time will be devoted to volunteer work there.
