Bishop Oscar A. Solis blesses the faithful and the palms they carry just prior to the 11 a.m. Palm Sunday Mass at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Palm Sunday is a time when “we enter into … the most important mysteries of our faith that mark the moment of our salvation in Christ,” Bishop Solis said during his homily at the April 14 Mass. He pointed out that the readings for the day began with Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, and ended with the death on the cross. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus brought about humankind’s redemption from sin, the bishop said, inviting those present to reflect on their own lives and how they are living as Christian believers. “We can see a very close relationship of our own life and faith in the Passion and the suffering of Christ. The lies, the abandonment, the cruelty and evil deeds committed by those responsible for the death of Jesus remind us of our own indifference to the presence of God in the world; our own infidelities, transgressions against his commandments that we are supposed to obey, and our own betrayal of God’s love for us simply because of our own selfishness. In other words, our own sins and failings are no different than what led Christ to his death on Calvary. …”
