The Carmelite nuns prepare for the fair all year long. Along with making jams, jellies and chocolates, they crochet, knit, cross stitch and sew hundreds of items that are sold to help provide for them throughout the coming year.

The annual Carmelite Fair was held on Sept. 15 at the Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Holladay.

The event drew hundreds of people who enjoyed a day of silent and live auctions, live entertainment, food and children’s games. They also were able to visit booths to purchase jams, jellies, chocolates and goods handmade by the nuns and friends of the Carmelites, along with others featuring produce and other items.

Drawing winners were: $300 cash – Shannon Bare; iPad – M. Mischel; Traeger Grill – Casserole Palza; car – Jamie Gill.

The fair is the only fundraiser held each year to support the nuns, who live a cloistered life dedicated to their vocation of love, prayer and union with God, praying for priests and the salvation of souls.

In a message sent to the Intermountain Catholic, the Carmelite nuns thanked everyone for their support and said they would remember them in their prayers.
