James McFarland Nichol, 90, of Mount Pleasant died Aug. 16 in Provo.
He was born Sept. 26, 1926 to Calvin Huston and Pauline Frew Nichol in Fort Morgan, Colo. He married Therese H. Piontek on Nov. 22, 1969 in Ogden in St. Joseph Catholic Church. They lived in Weber and Davis counties. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Layton until 1979, when he retired. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman and loved outdoor activities. In 1989 he and his wife moved to Sanpete County, and he lived in Mt. Pleasant for the remainder of his life.
James is survived by his wife, Therese (Terrie) Nichol of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Mary Gaither of Dallas, Ore. and Patricia Barben of Kaysville; four nieces: Cathy Cook, Joy Kelly, Carol Luczycki and Mary Ann Jones; and one nephew, Scott Barben.
James was a loving husband, brother, uncle and mentor to several international students who attended Snow College and Brigham Young University, and a friend to all who knew him. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends and his dog, Buddy.
