Jean DeMaio

ST. GEORGE — Jean DeMaio, 92, died Aug. 7, at the Kolob Care and Rehabilitation Center in St. George.

DeMaio was born Aug. 24, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Carolina and John DiBlasi. She married Mariano "Marty" DeMaio Aug. 21, 1934, and they were married for 58 years. He died in 1992. Following his death, she moved to St. George to live with her son and daughter-in-law Richard and Suzanne.

Her first son, Robert, was born in Brooklyn, before they moved to Palm Beach, Fla., where her second son, Richard was born in 1946. In 1950, the family moved to Burbank, Calif., where DeMaio was a full time mother and a wonderful cook. She was small in stature, just under five feet tall, but she had a big heart and a cute smile. She never had a daughter but loved Dolores, Carol, and her nieces, Ann Jean, Marie, Nettie, and Carole as though they were her own daughters.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. George Catholic Church. Committal was in Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George.
