PRICE — The Notre Dame de Lourdes Youth group in Price received a plaque for the float they created for the Annual Helper Electric Light Parade Dec. 6.

"Our float was the only float representing a church," said Dannette Moynier, Notre Dame youth leader. "The kids made signs to share with the crowd and the response was amazing. The posters read: WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?), Jesus Loves, and Feliz Navidad, to name a few.

"One gentleman shouted from the crowd ‘This is the only time I have seen Jesus mentioned,’" said Moynier. "As the float rolled down the street, the crowd cheered. That confirmed to them and us that in spite of the commercialization of Christmas, Jesus really is the reason for the season."

"It was a message to our youth that in spite of the commercial Santa Claus part of Christmas, the majority of us still want Jesus to be the reason for the season," said Moynier.

Moynier said after the closure of Notre Dame de Lourdes School, they did not have a youth group in Price. Now that they have the new Community Center that was dedicated Nov. 23, by the Most Rev. John C. Wester, bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, it is a new beginning for the youth group.

"We have just begun meeting and this was our first community activity," said Moynier. "We have several parents and young couples who are involved in organizing activities for our youth, and we are looking forward to a variety of fun things to do. We average about 10 kids a week, which is small, but we are hoping the numbers will increase as we continue to be active in our church and in the community.

"I want to thank the adults who have been involved," said Moynier. "They are Judy Giordano-Olson, Justin and Angel Vigil, and Neil and Sabrina Vigil.

Moynier said the youth group would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
