Jimmy F. (Babe) Mancuso

Jan. 20, 1936 ~ Oct. 31, 2022

Jimmy F. (Babe) Mancuso, 86, died peacefully on October 31, 2022.  He was born Jan 20, 1936 in Salt Lake City to Carmino Mancuso and Carolina Barbiero Mancuso. He attended South High School and the University of Utah.  He played football, basketball and track for South High.  He married his high school sweetheart, Judith Ann Stone on August 17, 1957 in Salt Lake City.  They are parents of three beautiful daughters.

He was a member of the 130th AC&W Squadron in the Utah Air National Guard for six years receiving an honorable discharge.  He was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration in 1960.  He was an air traffic controller, facility training instructor, data systems automation member, area supervisor and a facility training manager.  He was a member of the National Automation Committee that worked with Mitre, IBM and Raytheon on the research and development of digitized radar data for the National Airspace system at the FAA Technical Center in New Jersey.  Retired in 1994 after 36 years and 9 months with the FAA and the United States government. Not satisfied with retirement, he began working with Washington Consulting Group and then Raytheon as a contract training instructor for the FAA.  

Babe loved all sports including football, basketball, skiing, tennis, boating, baseball/softball and golf.  He achieved two holes in one! He was an avid University of Utah and Jazz fan. We will always remember his famous line, “I’m glad you got to see me!”

Survived by wife, Judy, three children, Brenda (Layne) Retallick, Carol (Jeff) Kabey and Linda (Vic) Quezada; four grandchildren, Megan Retallick, Curtis Kabey, Nicole Kabey, Rick (Madison) Quezada, and three great-grand dogs; brother, Ross (Marilyn) Mancuso and sister, Cathy Rogers.  Preceded in death by both parents, brother Carmen Mancuso, sisters Lauretta Edlefsen, Mary Folger, Teresa Thornton and granddaughter Kelsey Quezada.

The family would like to personally thank Home Instead Senior Care and ICare Home Health & Hospice for their loving and compassionate care that was given to Babe.

At his request, Babe donated his body to the University of Utah School of Medicine with hopes of further education and research in understanding the human body.  As such there will not be a viewing.  His family will have a celebration of life on December 10, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.
