Joe Severo Vigil

LAYTON — Joe Severo Vigil, 82, died April 7.

Vigil was born Oct. 15, 1924, in Delta, Colo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1943 to 1946, and then was called back to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951. He married Maria Emma Maez in Del Notre, Colo. He worked several jobs before finding his passion with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Union, Local 182 ALC. As a superintendent, he worked in Utah and across the nation constructing water towers, chemical vessels, and municipal water tanks.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maria Emma (Maez) Vigil; six children, Joseph (Petra) Vigil, Andrew (Debbie) Vigil, Roberta (Jeff) Reinsch, Darrell (Kelly) Vigil, Delia (Dave) Appleby, and Theresa (Dieter) Bareihs; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Interment was in Lindquist’s Memorial Park, Layton.
