SALT LAKE CITY — John Wenzl, 80, passed away Dec. 20, 2014. 
Wenzl was born May 13, 1934 to Eugene and Margaret Wenzl of Valley Falls, Kan. He served in the United States Air Force and the Reserves. In 1956, he married Bonnie. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Kansas State University. He worked in the Biology Department at the University of Utah for more than 20 years. After retirement he worked for Salt Lake County in their Senior Centers program.
Wenzl was an active member of the Catholic Church; he sang in the church choirs of Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Martin de Porres parishes. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed calling Bingo at church, which inspired him to start a Bingo program at the Mt. Olympus Senior Center.
Wenzl is survived by ex-wife Bonnie; children Michael, Mona (Mike), Kathryn (Joel) and Diane (Steve); five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Ben Wearing and Duane McKinney; and numerous nieces, nephews,  cousins and friends.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.
