SALT LAKE CITY — Judge Memorial Catholic High School is beginning the academic year encouraging families, students, faculty and staff to be and give their all during this year in which they continue to celebrate the institution’s 100th anniversary.

This year’s theme, “Be 100,” has a three-part meaning.

“First is a reference to our centennial,” said Derek P. Jensen, the school’s director of communications.

Besides celebrating the school’s 100-year anniversary, Judge Memorial is calling on the students to be their best and give 100 percent in all their efforts.

“There is also a reference to be coming back from the pandemic; we are back to school [on campus] five times a week and we will be 100 percent present,” Jensen said.

Returning to a full schedule of in-person learning, the Judge Memorial community “can all be 100 percent our best,” he added.

With the in-person learning, the high school will follow Utah Department of Health precautions such as wearing masks, social distancing and constant sanitizing.

“It is important that we can all be once again together, giving our 100 percent because we all have had more than a year of isolation and stress and having to work remotely, even though it was only parttime last year,” Jensen said.

The theme of Be 100 also gives students the opportunity to return to all facets of their student life, he said.

“We have a really great opportunity to allow every single one of our students to challenge themselves and discover who they are by participating in all kinds of activities and athletics,” Jensen said, adding that one important aspect of returning to in-person learning will be for students to be present to work with faculty and teachers to move  forward in their education journey.”

The theme of Be 100 will be used in all the school hashtags this year.

“We want to draw people into expecting to be and give 100 percent,” he said. “We want to care for the whole person – that means academically, socially and spiritually, and the best way to do that is to have them back in the building.”

The theme is the perfect opportunity for everyone to remember to be 100 percent and give their all, he said.

“Faculty members are really excited to be able to provide more of a traditional learning experience where they don’t necessarily need to worry about all the audio and technical issues that remote learning implies, and now they can give 100 percent of their expertise to our students every day,” Jensen said.
