Lent Begins + Enlarge

Ash Wednesday, which is Feb. 17 this year, marks the beginning of the Lenten season. During the six weeks of Lent, Catholics are called to fast and abstain from all meat on certain days (see the official announcement). Catholics also “are asked to devote ourselves to seeking the Lord in prayer and reading Scripture, to service by giving alms, and to practice self-control through fasting,” as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops states.

Within the Diocese of Salt Lake City, several Lenten retreats will be offered, despite the pandemic. See the stories"Diocesan Lenten retreat will be online this year," "St. Francis of Assisi Parish to offer various Lenten retreats," and "Lenten retreat to focus on redemptive suffering."
