SALT LAKE CITY — This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Lenten movie series presented at St. Vincent de Paul Parish.

The movies are meant to inspire and provoke discussion and reflection, but also are a way of learning, said Fr. John Norman, pastor.

The movie series is “an example that we can learn in many different ways; … we learn at lectures, at discussions at retreats, and I think even through movies and plays – it’s another way to learn and experience,” he said.

The movies are family friendly, but this year the films that have been chosen are more appropriate for those in middle school and older. The movies all present the stories of different people through different periods of the Church.

“There are just more experiences out there than just our own,” Fr. Norman said. “Lent is the time of prayer, fasting and act of charity and it is the perfect time for learning.”

The first presentation was March 9. They will continue on Mondays March 16-April 6 at 7 p.m. in the parish’s Holy Family Hall, 1375 E. Spring Lane, Salt Lake City. The presentations are free; people are encouraged to bring pillows and snacks. A discussion will follow the film if time allows.
