July 29, 1933 ~ September 5, 2022
Linda Ann Gerdes passed away peacefully September 5, 2022, at age 89 in Salt Lake City.
Linda was born July 29, 1933 to John and Alice Gourley on a ranch in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She moved to Salt Lake City with her family in 1941, living in a house on 1200 East with her parents and three brothers and sisters. Linda graduated from Judge Memorial Catholic High School in 1951.
She met her husband Delbert (Deb) Gerdes in Salt Lake, and they were married on November 8, 1952. They raised four children, Dan, Robin, Michael and Joe, with Linda as a full-time mother. Linda and Deb remained together for 63 years, until his death in 2016.
While raising her family in her home in Holladay, Linda developed an interest in stained glass artistry that developed into a passion. Over years of work, she became a professional stained-glass artist in Salt Lake, displaying her work in places like the Kimball Art Center in Park City and the Historic Eccles Art Center in Ogden, where her work is still displayed. In her basement studio, The Glass Cellar Studio, she created windows, panels and lamps treasured by her family and clients. Her husband Deb supported her work by framing her pieces.
Mom never met a cat she didn’t like, and never missed an opportunity to help them if she could. There were always one or two or three in her home, and in her last months at Auberge, she adopted the resident Calico as her constant companion.
Linda is survived by her children Joe, Robin, Michael and Dan (Susan); her sisters Trudi Terry (Dave) and Celeste Black; one grandchild, Josh; and three great-grandchildren Brixxion, Zoey and Bobbie Lyn.
A private ceremony was held on September 8 in Salt Lake City. She was laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
