SALT LAKE CITY — Lote B. Kinney died June 3. Kinney was born to Viola and Lote Kinney Sr., in Rock Springs, Wyo. He graduated from South High School and attended the University of Utah before World War II, and then enlisted with the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was selected to enter the Navy’s U-12 program and became a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He graduated from the Naval Supply Corp. at Harvard University where he was commissioned as a Ensign. He served in the South Pacific where he earned Navy officer status from the enlisted ranks. He married Gloria DeSantis in Newark, N.J. He then accepted an appointment as special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) serving in Philadelphia, New York, Las Vegas, and Salt Lake City. He was also the legal advisor and had a career that spanned over 26 years with the FBI. He maintained his own private law firm until moving to Bloomington. He was admitted to practice law in all the state’s federal courts in Utah, the 10th Circuit of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States. He was a member of many fraternities and organizations. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Salt Lake City, and St. Olaf Parish, Bountiful. He is survived by his children, Lynda (Geoff) Cook, Lote (Audrey), Lori (Duff) Willey; grandchildren, Parker and Nick Cook, Lote V., Kyle, Isabella Kinney, and Walker and Buzz Willey; and sister, Margaret Kinney Spratley. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Olaf Catholic Church. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
