Betsy Burton, co-owner of the King’s English Bookshop in Salt Lake City, is the recipient of the 2017 Madeleine Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts & Humanities, which was presented June 8 during dinner at the Alta Club. Burton, who has been a bookseller for nearly 30 years, is an editor and author who has won numerous awards for writing, urban design and professional accomplishments. She also co-produced and co-wrote the documentary film “Invisible Disabilities,” which deals with safely integrating adults with disabilities into communities. In addition, she volunteers on many local and national boards with interests ranging from the humanities, higher education, politics and disabilities. She also co-founded Local First Utah. Shown with Burton is Father Martin Diaz, rector of the Cathedral of the Madeleine, and Paula Peterson, a member of the Madeleine Award committee and the dinner’s master of ceremony.
