Mary Ann “Mollie” Wood, 71, was called home On September 1 after a long battle with cancer while in the comfort of her home. She was a beloved wife, mother, and Nana. She devoted her life to her children and grandchildren and cheered them on along the way.

Mollie was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and was the oldest of four children. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Marycrest College. She devoted her life to teaching in various schools for 35 years. She taught at Little Flower Catholic School and Riverton Elementary, but she spent most of her time with St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Kearns. During her tenure at Saint Francis Xavier, Mollie taught both fifth and third grades. It can be truly said that she touched the future and will always be known as the teacher who would say “Oh fiddlesticks.” Mollie was a gift to all that knew her and a true friend.

Mollie enjoyed reading books, watching movies, camping and going on Razor rides in the desert. She liked to take walks and enjoyed every season. She was known for her kind and gentle spirit; she had a heart of gold. Her smile brought peace and comfort to those she met and will be deeply missed. She was especially passionate about her six wonderful grandchildren; playing games, working on art projects and camping were just a few of the many treasures she shared with them.

Mollie was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Georgia Colliton. Mollie is survived by her siblings Patricia “Patti” Manion, James “Jim” Colliton and Kathleen “Kathi” May; her husband Robert, and children Robert Wood Jr. (Amanda), Katie Morris (Robert); six grandchildren Lily, RJ, Xander, Lizzie, Jacob and Allie.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 8 at 1 p.m. at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 7405 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Kearns.
