Dec. 19, 1938 ~ Nov. 19, 2022

Maxine Kaiser, 83, passed away peacefully in Minnesota on Nov. 19, 2022. Preceded in death by parents and nephew Daniel Leko. Survived by her sister, Joyce Leko; brother Kurt (Mary Clark-Kaiser) Kaiser; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Born Dec. 19, 1938 in St. Paul, Minn., Maxine grew up in rural Jordan, Minn. She attended Catholic elementary school and public high school in Jordan; received her bachelor’s degree in biology from the College of St. Benedict at St. Joseph, Minn.; a Master of Biological Sciences degree from the University of Idaho and Master in Pastoral Ministry from St. Mary’s University in Minnesota.

Maxine spent almost 25 years with the Benedictines. She taught in the Catholic schools in the St. Cloud diocese in Minnesota and at Judge Memorial Catholic High School in Utah. She was director of the diocesan Resource Center in Utah for 13 years and diocesan director of the Office of the Liturgy in Utah from 1996 to 2008.

Maxine moved to Utah in 1976 to teach, expecting to stay for a year or two. She quickly fell in love with Utah’s natural beauty, its people and the potential for meaningful service within the Church. She remained in Utah until 2017, when she moved back to Minnesota to be closer to family.

Maxine loved children and traveled all over the world. She had a deep appreciation for the Church’s rich liturgical and spiritual heritage and a keen awareness of the power that liturgy has as an integrating force in our Christian lives. Her goal has always been to help people find meaning for their daily lives in the faith that we profess and celebrate.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Peter in North St. Paul, Minn. A graveside service will be held on December 9, 2022 at 11 a.m., at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 275 U St., Salt Lake City.

Arrangements entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor. Share your photos and memories and view tribute slideshow at www.starksfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, Maxine’s family requests Mass Intentions or a donation to a charity of your choice to help the poor.
