Message from the Bishop Catholic Schools Week 2022

The Diocese of Salt Lake City joins all the Catholic schools in the nation in celebrating Catholic Schools Week 2022.

Catholic education is a great blessing from God for our diocese and for the Utah community. As we celebrate, I ask that we keep our schools, staff and students in our prayers during these unprecedented and trying times.

This year’s theme is “Faith, Excellence, Service.” It reflects the comprehensive approach of Catholic education as a seedbed for our children to grow intellectually, spiritually, physically, emotionally and morally. I have spent quality time in each of our parochial schools, celebrated the Holy Mass and visited with students, faculty and staff and witnessed the efforts of so many to make our schools a conducive place of learning.

I commend Mark Longe, superintendent of Utah Catholic Schools, the teachers, principals and staff for all their dedication, creativity and enthusiasm in their service to our Church and communities. We appreciate the parents, who are the first teachers of children in the ways of faith, for their essential partnership and collaboration with the Church in the mission of evangelization; as well as the continued support of donors and benefactors.

God has continually blessed our Catholic schools through the years, allowing them to continue to provide an excellent environment for holistic formation of our students with strong emphasis on Catholic identity, moral values and academic excellence. Amidst the remarkably diverse backgrounds of the families, I sense a spirit of unity that reflects the presence of the Lord in our midst.

Grateful for our Catholic schools and the mission of the Church through Catholic education, I wish you God’s blessings. Let us continue to work together to make our schools a vibrant community of faith and an instrument of transformation in the world.
