Metta Joan Clancy passed away on Aug. 8, 2017. She was born on Dec. 21, 1929, to Anthony Vonderheide and Bessie Keller in Effingham, Ill. She married Robert Clancy on Jan. 1, 1955, in Effingham, Ill. They were married for 54 years. He passed away on Jan. 27, 2009.

Metta was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. James the Just Parish and involved in Adoration, was an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion and a lector. She enjoyed painting and sewing.

She is survived by her son, Timothy Clancy; daughters Teresa Clancy and Lori Kennedy; grandchildren Maureen (Eric) Ranks, Ian (Holly) Tabaracci, Samantha (Bob) Rensel, Maggie Calder and Jack Kennedy; brothers Ray Vonderheide, Wayne Vonderheide and Eugene Vonderheide; and sisters Elaine Hartke and Barbara Hartke.

She was preceded in death by Robert Clancy, Karen Clancy and Kevin Clancy.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living; her senior companion, Vivian Martinez; Abby and Justin from Peak Hospice; Holly Pell, Ian Tabaracci and Deb Rockwell, all the angels who helped her daughter, Terry, care for her over the past seven years.

A memorial Mass was celebrated Aug. 22 at St. James the Just Catholic Church. A funeral Mass and inurnment will be held in the spring.
