The children’s faith formation program at St. Rose of Lima Parish will host a bilingual Stations of the Crib on Sunday, Dec. 22 at 2:30 p.m. In this devotion, participants recall the events leading up to and immediately following the birth of Christ.

“We found several examples online and kind of combined them,” Director of Faith Formation Kevin Cummings said.

At St. Rose of Lima Parish, the 12 Stations of the Crib will start with the prophecies of Micah and move through the Annunciation and the Visitation and other events surrounding Christ’s birth. Some of the students will be in costume. It will be presented in two languages, switching back and forth between English and Spanish, “so that both communities can come together to pray,” Cummings said.

This will take the place of a parish Christmas pageant.

“Traditional pageants don’t involve the community in prayer,” Cummings said of the reason behind choosing to do Stations of the Crib.

In addition, a bilingual Stations of the Cross the faith formation classes sponsored this year on the Monday of Holy Week “was very, very powerful. By getting both communities together to pray, it creates a certain solidarity,” Cummings said.

“By entering prayerfully into the mysteries of Advent and looking forward to the birth of Christ in anticipation just a couple of days before Christmas, perhaps we’ll have something a little more moving than just a traditional pageant,” he said.
