SALT LAKE CITY — Nicolas James Smit, 16, died Oct. 28, in a car accident. Smit was born Dec. 7, 1989, to Peter John Smit and Patsy Criffield Smit, in Kirkland, Wash. He spent most of his childhood in Grantsville and then Murray, where he was a junior at Murray High School. He loved being outdoors, and anything with a motor. He could fix anything that was broken. Smit was his mother’s protector, and he was always the quiet observer at noisy family gatherings. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his parents; sister, Chanda; grandmothers; a large extended family’ and many friends. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Murray High auto shop.
