May 12, 1936 ~ June 5, 2021

Nora Mary was born on May 12, 1936, outside the front of Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City in the doctor’s car coming from Garfield. Her eventful birth made it into the local newspaper along with a photo of her mother and her.

Her father, Joseph Francis Humphreys, was an immigrant from South Wales and her mother, Modesta Marie Keith, was a Utah native. Her father died from an injury while working at Kennecott when she was not quite 5 years old.

She attended Saint Mary’s, an all-girls Catholic school. She married Carmen Antonio Mancuso, Jr. on July 2, 1953, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Nora became a very involved asset for the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City. She led many Rite of Christian Initiation classes over the years. She co-opened Mancuso’s Religious Goods with her husband in 1991. In 2011 she was vested as a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. She made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with Bishop George H. Neiderauer and fellow Knights and Ladies and received the “Pilgrim Shell.” She was known to be an avid reader and loved to share her history. She spoke passionately about her faith, loved camping and gathering at the Defa Dude Ranch, and would leave a legacy of kindness and welcoming to all.

Survived by children Cynthia John (William) and Tony Mancuso; grandchildren Justin, Tyler (Jessamy), Carmen (Marie), Nora, and Nicholas; as well as nine great-grandchildren; brother Joseph Humphreys (Sophie) as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Joseph F. Humphreys, Modesta M. Keith, husband Carmen A. Mancuso, sisters Ann Kathleen Hernandez (Aleen) and Modesta Ilene Patka.

A celebration of her life will be held at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City on June 21 from 6 until 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann Catholic Church, 450 East 2100 South, Salt Lake City, on June 22 at noon, with burial following at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 4th Avenue & T Street, Salt Lake City.
